SAC for planning - a key milstone
With SAP Analytics Cloud for planning, SAP has succeeded in expanding its product portfolio in the planning environment by a significant milestone.
SAP Analytics Cloud for planning is a cloud-based planning solution focused on the enduser – the planner. It facilitates fast and agile planning applications incl. analyses and supports the planning process with comprehensive collaboration options. SAP Cloud for Planning therefore combines planning and reporting in one application, with a look and feel modelled very closely on Excel. SAP Cloud for Analytics serves as the basis.
To achieve these objectives, SAP deploys the following key technologies:
- In Memory Computing (SAP HANA)
- Analytics
- Cloud Computing
- Mobile
Thanks to “in-memory computing”, even very large data volumes can be processed in a very short time. This data is then immediately available for analyses. Planning, simulations and analyses (such as ‘what if’ analyses) are possible at any level of detail imaginable.
There are comprehensive reporting facilities available. To support the user, the system generates reporting suggestions on the basis of the data to be analysed. Instead of the user having to consider random “drivers”, the analysis is focused on the “key drivers”.
Cloud computing facilitates utilisation of the latest developments; this means that planning can be implemented more quickly and the latest innovations can always be made available immediately.
Usability and speed are also valued in the mobile environment, as they make for faster response times and facilitate more efficient planning processes.

On October 6, 2020 Gartner released their 2020 Magic Quadrant for Cloud Financial Planning and Analysis Solutions.
Gartner outlined that the 2020 MQ covered solutions which support the office of finance’s efforts to manage financial planning, budgeting, modeling and performance reporting.
Gartner’s evaluation in the Cloud FP&A report was based on SAP’s ability to execute and completeness of vision. SAP was named a Visionary.
